I like pricing transparency. Astrology is NOT cheap.
Let’s break down why this is.
First, you pay for expertise.
It takes years to master each type of astrology chart. When someone can interpret multiple types of charts, this person has spent decades mastering a field that is a blend of astronomy, mythology, psychology, sociology, current global events, and mathematics.
A good astrologer has invested thousands of dollars in classes, workshops, conferences, teachers, and mentors. They’ve bought dozens of difficult to find books and studied them until the glue holding them together fell apart. They have explored hundreds (if not thousands) of astrological charts. It is a HUGE financial and time investment to reach the professional level.
When you meet those of us who can calculate where transiting planets will be (or where they were in your childhood) without glancing at an ephemeris (the table for calculations) or software… we have the equivalent of a doctorate degree in studies.
Second, you pay for time.
It takes hours to prepare a solid reading before we meet with your or record for you. For complex readings (involving more than one chart or more than one type of chart), this doubles for each chart (or snapshot of the sky) involved.
For example, some of my deluxe readings combine 5 charts–I only charge for the time it takes me to verbally state in person or in a recording my findings. I may need 5-10 hours for both the study of all five charts and understanding them holistically before I can translate this into plain English for a client.
Third, you pay for the current accepted field standard.
While there’s no standard we all charge, we do check each other’s prices and adjust accordingly. We try to stay competitive through our offerings rather than pricing. Most of us want to see ALL of us succeed.
In the digital age, you will see most prices in a general accepted range based on time and/or complexity of a reading. Occasionally, you’ll see someone charge higher or lower due to where they live. For example: an astrologer in San Francisco will have a much higher cost of living. One in rural Montana will have a much lower one. Most people will fall in the general range.
Conclusion
I try to offer each reading with different time limits and depth of details to make my products affordable for different price points as well as different levels of familiarity. Sometimes we just have one single question in one area of our lives. Sometimes we want to dive deep and understand a complex situation from multiple perspectives.
I prefer that someone gets some advice when they truly need it, rather than be completely priced out of a reading. It’s perfectly acceptable to set up a few 15 minute sessions throughout the year and digest the information in affordable pieces instead of doing a big reading up front if that’s what’s right for you!
Personally, I save up if I know I want a long, in-depth reading with one of my favorite astrologers. For my quick check-ins, I’m more likely to pick a shorter reading based on one aspect of my life that I’m most interested in (like career or love) at that time, and come back again in 3 to 6 months.
No one will think it strange if this is what’s right for you. Plus, if you’re going through a major life change, sometimes it’s too much information to absorb all at once! It might be easier to work through in quarterly or semiannual sessions.
I’m always open to suggestions for future requests to help make astrology work for your budget. Feel free to message me using “Request a Quote” for personal readings to drop ideas or ask questions, not just to ask for event quotes.
